Old versus New

October 5, 2012

Would you take the word of a 5 year old over the word of a 50 year old?  Well, I suppose that depends on how wise each one was.  Let’s say that the 5 year old is known for making things up and the 50 year old has a lifetime of good decisions behind them.  Then how would you answer this question?
I find great joy and comfort in the fact that for thousands upon thousands of years, people have had faith in God and have testified to what He has done in their lives.  I find the same amount of comfort in the fact that even though Jesus walked on the Earth over two thousand years ago, so many people still believe in Him, trust Him and have the utmost faith in Him as the One who forgives them of their sins and provides their every need.

Our faith today is just as real, and sometimes just as shaky as Abraham’s was.  Not Abraham Lincoln, although it is obvious, at least to some that he was a strong man of faith,  (, I mean the father of Isaac, grandfather of Jacob; Father Abraham, who we read about in Genesis.  God proved his word to be true, for us (even when we doubt Him) through [the story of] blessing Abraham and his wife, Sarah with a son, even after Sarah took measures to make sure Abraham had a son by giving her servant, Hagar, to him, as a wife.

After Hagar had Ishmael and Sarah and Abraham had grown so very old, God blessed them with a son of their own, Isaac, just as God promised Abraham that He would [before Sarah gave Hagar to him].

Time and time again, through out the Old and New Testaments, you see God does not mince words.  He means what He says and says what He means.  Boy, Aaron’s sons found that out the hard way!! Thankfully, God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus the Nazarene, to make receiving forgiveness a whole lot easier than when Aaron’s sons were given their priestly orders and their quick death for not following those orders to a tee!!

This rich history found the Holy Bible, helps us to learn who God is.  He is a Righteous God, a jealous God, and He is Holy beyond measure!  Just what does Holy mean, anyways?  Well, here is’s definition:

1.  specially recognized as or declared sacred by religious use or authority; consecrated: holy ground.
2.  dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion: a holy man.
3.  saintly; godly; pious; devout: a holy life.
4.  having a spiritually pure quality: a holy love.
5.  entitled to worship or veneration as or as if sacred: a holy relic.
6.  religious: holy rites.
7.  inspiring fear, awe, or grave distress: The director, when angry, is a holy terror.

I find the forth definition to be perfectly suitable to describe our Father in Heaven.  God has a spiritually pure quality, for sure and is definitely sacred(1).  He IS entitled to BE worshiped(5), and inspires fear and awe(7), as well!!

So why do we have other new religions popping up that bend and twist these facts found in the bible?  Why do people want to try so hard to create other paths, when the one true path is so very clear?  In John, Chapter 14:6, Jesus proclaims, “I am the way, the truth and the life!  No one comes to the Father, except through me!”

I must admit, I have had a hard time believing that there was only one path to heaven.  I struggled to accept that there was only one way for a long time.  I would agree with friends and family during conversations about other religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism, because my heart just could not imagine such sweet people not making it into heaven.  However, I have finally come to the point of accepting ALL of God’s Holy Word as truth!

Why?  Well, if the Word was in the beginning and the Word was with God and the Word WAS God, and I believe in God, I better also believe God’s Word!  (John 1:1)

In the Word, it says in Matthew, Chapter 7:14,  “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

And in Psalms  16:11, the psalmist [King David, father of Solomon, in this case] has found the path, sweet and satisfying, “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Why anyone would take a gamble with other paths is beyond me.  I guess that’s where the fear sets in!  I fear the wrath of God and would not want to incur it by dabbling with other beliefs (or paths), even though I admittedly studied a few in the past, out of sheer curiosity.  I will also tell you that I found them completely void of the absolute love and joy that is only found in Christ.

So now, I will explain what I mean by the New [in my title].  The following is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

“The New Age movement is a Western spiritual movement that developed in the second half of the 20th century. Its central precepts have been described as ‘drawing on both Eastern and Western spiritual and metaphysical traditions and infusing them with influences from self-help and motivational psychology, holistic health, parapsychology, consciousness research and quantum physics .”

Okay…so a quick comparison, right off the bat.  The belief of God has been around for some 6,000 years, and is still a very sound and cherished belief for many in this twenty-first century.  While the New Age movement, which is a culmination of many beliefs from God to the 330 million Hindu gods (that must be exhausting when in praise and adoration!), as well as  a combination of complicated science and psychologies, has only been around since the mid-1900’s.

And if or when you ask a New Ager about their beliefs, you will get almost as many answers as there are Hindu gods!!  There is no one set belief this group of deceived ones follow, for there are many different degrees and paths for them to hop around on.  The few beliefs they do share in common are that they are enlightened and are highly evolved.

So you have faith in One God and a straight and narrow path through belief and acceptance in Christ, and you have a very confusing plethora of paths on a wide road of acceptance and enlightenment.

There is not a New Age document, per say, but many documents.   This is because they take a little of this and a little of that and basically do what makes them feel good.  They meditate and chant, Christians pray and worship.  They will things to manifest into their lives [by way of “The Secret”], Christians accept God’s will for their lives.

So what’s the big deal?
Well, New Agers do not believe that good and evil come from two very different sources, but instead, believe that both good and bad reside in us all (true) and that based on our choices in this life, we will either reach Nirvana (aka their Heaven) or they will have to live another life and another, until they get it right. (Obviously, this belief is derived from Hinduism.)

But wait!  It says in God’s Holy Word that we only have one life to live…or ONE life to get things right.  Hebrews 9:27 makes this abundantly clear. “And, inasmuch, as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment…” (feel free to open up your bible and continue reading from Hebrews 9!)

And what about judgement?  It seems New Agers have done away with the need for judgement, because after all, if they mess up, they will just have to repeat life again!  Who in their right minds wants to live on this earth again?!  Sure, it’s a pretty place, especially on the beaches or in the mountains, but we don’t just vacation through life!  We deal with heartache, strife, illness, loss…this is a place of immense suffering!!  (Jesus makes handling these trials much easier, by the way!)
Perhaps they don’t want to deal with God.  He is going to judge every single one of us.  He does appreciate when we follow His will and help our fellow man, but remember what Jesus says?  We can only get to God through Jesus.  What does that mean and what’s the alternative?  Well, if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, the blood He shed on the Cross will cover your sins.  If you do not, you will go to Hell.  It’s as simple as that!  And yet, it’s not so simple, is it?

As Christ followers, we are called to live righteous lives.  To obey God’s Commandments, and to seek forgiveness for our sins and turn away from them.  I really think this might seem too hard for some, so they satisfy their longings for a relationship with God through other ‘means’ and then breaking God’s commandments doesn’t have to weigh on their consciences, because there is no hell and their is no devil.
I hate to break this to our New Age friends.  Those ‘means’ were created by God’s greatest enemy and opposition!  That’s right, Satan created this New Age Movement in order to let people feel like they are close to God, when in reality, they couldn’t be farther from the truth.  Wait…what is the truth?

Well, let me go to my handy, dandy, singular source for the truth, because it too, is defined perfectly there.   Oh, that’s right, I already have…but let me repeat it, JESUS is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE, and NO ONE gets to the FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH HIM! (John 14:6)

Satan is so happy that some of you will still refuse to believe the truth, and accept God’s forgiveness,  and instead, will continue to settle for his false religions.   However, it is my prayer, today, that you will seriously consider all that I have been compelled to write, for it is in love, that I make these comparisons.

Jesus is coming soon.  Though no one knows the exact day or hour, the many signs and wonders are appearing in these days to warn us that His arrival is nigh.  He waits because He grieves those who have not accepted His offer of eternal love and life and forgiveness.    He is the Shepard, waiting for His lost sheep to return home!  He died for everyone!!!  He rose from the grave to sit at His Father’s right hand in Heaven.

Can you feel Him calling out to you today?  Can you feel the tug on your heartstrings?  Don’t ignore it any longer.  The feeling in your heart is REAL!  Jesus is real!  Why don’t you get real today?

(written in nothing  but love for all)
