What’s in YOUR Closet?

October 17, 2012

Greetings and Salutations!

The importance of the wardrobe is being impressed upon me in a Mighty Way.

In a past posting (, I discussed in depth, the Armor of God that we are instructed to put on.  I am now being led to share that we are to dress ourselves in this manner Every Morning!  Again, let us look at these verses, and afterwards, I will reveal even more treasures to be found in your Holy wardrobe, to adorn yourself with, to set you apart for service, for protection, for communion.

Putting on a new man

When you accept Jesus as Lord of your life, you die unto yourself and are given new life through Christ. “Putting on a new man”

Why communion?  A deep, personal relationship with YOU, is what God longs for the most.  Communication is key in any relationship.  Do you talk to God as a friend?  Do you wait quietly for a response from Him or do you quickly go on with your day, after a brief and obligatory shout out?

Back to the meat:

Ephesians 6:10-18 (NIV)

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.

11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (THIS BATTLE FOR SOULS IS REAL, MY FRIENDS!)

13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

I’ve taken the time to mark the armor in bold and highlighted certain parts pertinent for understanding why we must be armed.

Isaiah 59:17

He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.

Thessalonians 5:18

But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

Job 29:14

I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban.

Every morning, we get up, brush our teeth, wash our face, comb our hair, make our coffee and pull on our uniforms or outfits for the day.  For many, a quiet time provides a nice amount of time to collect your thoughts, connect with God, and enjoy a peaceful start to an otherwise busy, hectic average day.

But perhaps we are still overlooking something quite essential.  It would seem that within our prayer closet, there is a magic wardrobe! Along with the aforementioned armor, there is also the cloak of Righteousness ready to be wrapped around you, and a stunning assortment of garlands and necklaces and even a crown!  We are offered a variety of lovely adornments from the Lord!

Proverbs 1:8-9

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.

Concerning Wisdom:

Proverbs 4:9

She will set a garland of grace on your head

and present you with a crown of splendor.

Proverbs 3:3

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart. (who needs a kindle?! HA!)

Proverbs 3:21-22

My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.

Isaiah 61:10

I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels

So before slipping into your armor, you might consider starting with a few necklaces. There is one for wisdom, one for understanding, one for sound judgment, one for discretion, one for love, one for faithfulness, and one to remind you of your mother’s teaching.  Then you might slip on a few garlands to remind you of your father’s instructions, and God’s unfailing grace!  You are starting to resemble Mr. T, but remember, he was all about integrity…maybe there was more to his bling than meets the eye!

Finally, before pulling on your armor, you will definitelywant to wrap yourself in the cloak of righteousness, and place your crown of splendor on top of your head, don’t worry, it will not effect your hairstyle and the helmet will still fit just right!

Don’t forget to make note of your duty towards love and faithfulness on the tablet of your heart.  And then you can pull on your helmet of salvation, your breastplate of righteousness, your shoes to walk in peace, your belt of truth, and you can carry your shield of faith and wield your sword of the spirit.

Last but not least…no really, it’s not as exhausting as it would seem, and the benefits are immeasurable… don’t forget that your are to walk in spirit.  Every morning pray that God will create in you a clean heart and renew the right spirit within you.  Inviting the Holy Spirit into your heart each morning verifies your desires of His Holy Presence and Guidance.  Add to that the fantastically rich wardrobe He provides us so that He can see us, (for God hates sin and cannot even look upon it), we are set to serve and walk in His will for us!

So if you’ve been leaving your prayer closet each morning naked, fret not!  He’s provided each of us these beautiful jewels, garments and tools to make our journey more efficient, safer, and more Holy.

With a battle facing us that has no earthly measure, we really need to start practicing and getting accustomed to the gifts He has provided us.  I truly believe in the face of danger, He will make us invisible to our enemies if we are wearing the cloak of righteousness and have our helmet and shield, breastplate, shoes and sword in hand.  As we pray for wisdom, our necklace becomes even more valuable, so bling it up, spirit-style and dress for success!!
