Devilution (Part I)

October 31, 2012

What possesses people to do the horrible things they do?  It’s a question people often ask, but do they realize what they are asking?  Do they understand the very real possibility of possession?  No, not as in ownership, but as in demonic possession…

We are all vessels.  Just like a blood vessel, a life-force flows through every breathing human being.  Just like the information that flows through the fibers within your telephone cord or the electricity that flows through your television plug, from the outlet, or source of energy, we too are fueled by a source.  There are two sources at play, always, within this world and those two forces battle for the possession of every soul!

If you have accepted the gift of the Holy Spirit through your faith in Jesus Christ, then you should be safe from harm, but this is only guaranteed if you are refraining from certain principalities and habits of this world.  I have written of the spiritual battle being waged in Heaven and on Earth for your sake.   I ask you now to open your bible to Ephesians 6:12 again.  The battle is for your soul, Satan would like nothing more than to keep you from realizing the Glory of the Lord and Our Heavenly Father would like nothing more than to protect you from such peril.

When you accept the gift of the Holy Spirit, suddenly, your vessel is full and leaves no room for intruders.  However, without the protection of the Holy Spirit, one is leaving themselves wide open for destruction and possession.  Perhaps you have witnessed a friend’s unusual behavior while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  Both damaging substances are truly gateways, leaving one vulnerable to be entered into by one or more demons.

In my last blog, I mentioned that before Mary Magdalene was healed by Jesus, she was possessed by seven demons.  Demons are like leeches, latching on and sucking away at one’s life force, taking the helm, and driving one’s earthly vehicle, the body and mind.  Once they latch on, it’s hard to shake them off!  In fact, it is impossible to do alone!

Here is where it gets really hard to believe, but I beg you to pray about this, and ask for discernment, because I am convinced that there is much truth in what I am about to share.  Often times, a change in personality will be diagnosed as mental illness or a personality disorder.  Let me ask you, did Jesus go around giving people illnesses or healing them?  Was He about disorder, or order?  You might say, well, God caused Miriam to come down with a temporary skin disease (Numbers 12).  This is true.  But Jesus came to save the world, because God truly loved His creation.  Jesus changed the way God handled things.  Jesus offered compassion and new life.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

The reason why I mention demons and demon possession at all is because it has been all but forgotten in present day church language, and we are ill-prepared to deal with such things oft believed as fiction, or as I mentioned in a previous post, that such situations are no longer valid!  Hogwash!!!  That’s exactly what Satan wants us to believe.  He wants us to be so comfortable, trusting that such horrid things simply do not occur in this day and age.  Boy has the devil been working hard to cover up and protect his greatest assets, his army of fallen angels, that set out all over the world, doing their work, undetected!

We must rise up and recognize the truth of the matter.  Demons have a hold of someone you know.  Maybe many people you know.  They may be in your own circle of friends or even closer…a family member!  That should give you pause!

Truth is, that in the Christian churches around the world, the goal is for people to be saved.  The sweeter the lure, the easier the catch!  Sermons are more oft than not, sugar-coated, preaching about the Love of God, but rarely about the snares of the enemy.  It is for this reason, I feel that we have not been fully equipped for the battle that is being waged on Earth and in Heaven.   If we are only getting half the story, if we are only focusing on the positive, we will not be prepared to deal with the negative that is becoming more and more powerful all the time.

Recently, in the news, many bizarre stories have come to light.  Drugs are being blamed for these acts of insane violence and displays of superhuman strength, once again, veiling the truth of the matter.  I am not saying that drugs were not involved, but what I’m saying is the consumption of such drugs (as bath salts) are leaving the user open to demonic possession.  This is only going to get worse in the days ahead!

So, how can we recognize whether or not someone is suffering from mental illness or if it is much worse?  By answering the following questions, you can begin to assess the situation.

Does the person concerned recognize their struggle?

Are they willing to seek medical treatment?

Has their behavior rapidly declined?

Are they harming themselves or others?

Has their personality been altered in a highly negative fashion?

In my town, there is a homeless woman, named Deborah, that I’ve been blessed to know.  One day, she came to my door for a few dollars and a drink of water, as she has once or twice a year for several years now.  She came this particular time with a story that I would have had a hard time believing, had I not already been privy to the information from the step-father of the child, himself.
She claimed to have helped a nearby family in casting a very powerful demon out of a teenaged boy.  Her story blew my mind, but the most poignant part when she explained that she did not lay her hands on the child, because that would have put her in danger of being taken over as well!  This really freaked me out, as I always thought we were immune, as Christians, from such affects.

My husband happened to be friends with the step-father and had built a shed in their back yard during this period of the son’s possession.  He came home one day, months before Deborah had come to my door, with this bizarre story!  I had a hard time digesting the fact, because I had never been exposed to the subject except through a few horror movies that I had idiotically exposed myself to.   He had asked that we pray for his son.  Of course, we did.

Then, later in the year, the step-father, Bill, came to our home and helped my husband work on his truck.  My curiosities got the best of me, and I asked how the boy was doing.  His faced changed to an expression of amazement, as he began the rundown of what had taken place in the months that followed the building of the shed.

They had sought help through the Catholic church, but were referred to a Christian counselor.  The church didn’t seem to want anything to do with the matter.  The counselor could not help, but referred them to a group of spiritualists.  The group of spiritualists came and laid their hands on the boy and did some praying and chanting, but to no avail, there was only a continued decline in behavior and violence rose to an even scarier height; they honestly felt their lives were being threatened.

Then one day, a woman showed up at their door, claiming that God led her there.  She KNEW that they needed her help, even though they had never met her before.  In the name of the Lord, she began praying over their home and asked to see the boy.  She released him from possession and then went on her way.  She never asked for anything in return and he never saw her again.

When Deborah told me the story, I was amazed!  It was the same story, but from her perspective.  God had sent her to their home to help them all!  Hallelujah!

I believe God allowed me to be privy to this complete story in order to share it with you at this very time.  This happened three years back.  I have seen Deborah only a few times since.  But when I see her, I see an amazing disciple of the Lord, a prophet with only a stone for a pillow.  But God provides for her, and she seems to have become more and more healthy each time I see her, which is a beautiful thing!

So my question for you today, one to ask yourself is, is your vessel full of the Holy Spirit, or is there room for one or more of Satan’s minions to reside within?  (Remember, Mary was possessed by not one, but seven demons!)  Are you prepared to battle evil if it seeps into your life, via a friend or family member?

We have been given the authority through Jesus Christ to perform the same miracles as He did.  He told His disciples that they were to go out and cast out demons and heal the sick.

Luke 9:1-2 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Luke 10:19-20  (Words of Jesus) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

How do I know that we have the ability to perform these acts that the disciples were given power and the authority to perform?  Well, further on in Luke, chapter 9, Luke reports that the disciples came to Jesus, reporting that another man had been found casting out demons.  They actually told the man to stop!  Jesus immediately corrected their thinking.

Luke 9:49-50  “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”

Luke 9:23-25 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?”

As this is already becoming rather lengthy, and I must get on about my duties of the day, I will make this a two part series.  In part two, I will share many of the examples where Jesus cast out demons, so that we can learn, straight from the master, just how we are to perform such acts, in His Holy Name!   I will also share many recent headlines that have truly opened my eyes to the seriousness of this matter.

For now, my prayer is that you weigh carefully, all that I have shared.  And that you will refrain from participating in the dark celebrations of this day. (Halloween 2012)

  1. What is amazing is how the disciples were caught up on the pharisee behavior of putting up a roadblock to others who are ministering about Jesus! I see this kind of behavior in christians all the time. Youtube is a perfect example of Christians coming against their own brothers and sisters simply because they aren’t just like them. Meanwhile, people are being spiritually injured with such behavior and they have no where to turn for their troubles, they need deliverance, they need a loving touch, they need real guidance, but all many of them see are brothers and sisters arguing against eachother all in the name of Jesus. It’s really terrible.

Anyway, I digress. Wonderful message sister. God bless you.

    • I completely agree, not only does such behaviors break my heart, it sheds a poor light on our faith and turns those curious to know about the Love of Jesus away, because there is truly no love to be seen.

      Love to you, Selena!
